Soniqs Win PUBG and R6 National Titles on Same Day
Over the weekend Soniqs competed in duel national championships across PUBG and Rainbow Six Siege. In dominant style, Soniqs powered through the weekend setting new records and ultimately capturing the PUBG Americas Series 4 and North America League Stage 2 grand championships.
Championship weekend began on Friday, with the PUBG team loading up to take on 15 other top teams across North America. As the reigning Esports World Cup champions, Soniqs were heavily favored to win the PUBG championship and didn’t disappoint.
On opening night, Soniqs put together back-to-back-to-back match victories, a feat seldom seen in PUBG esports. By the close of the first evening, Soniqs were already 42 points ahead of second place, setting the team up for a clear path to victory.
Soniqs’ Rainbow Six Siege program was in action Friday night as well with a first-round match against Wildcard Gaming. The matchup went the distance, going to map 3 where Soniqs came out on top and advanced in the playoffs to face Spacestation Gaming.
Moving to Saturday, Soniqs’ Rainbow Six Siege program took center stage with an important matchup against Spacestation Gaming. A victory meant qualification for the Montreal Major later this fall. The team rose to the occasion, overcoming Spacestation Gaming and booking their ticket to the grand finals against DarkZero and a trip to the Montreal Major.
On championship Sunday, Soniqs were firing on all cylinders. On the PUBG side, Soniqs continued to dominate. After surpassing 175 points, the team set the record for the most points scored during a grand finals in the PUBG Americas Series. Soniqs ultimately finished the tournament with 188 points, claiming the team’s 9th championship title.
Soniqs’ Rainbow Six Siege program had a harder road ahead to claim the championship. It was a grudge match against long-time rivals, DarkZero, for a chance at the title. The series held up to the expectations with each team forcing maximum overtime across all three maps played. Despite the added pressure of back-to-back-to-back overtimes in a championship match, Soniqs overcame adversity on Border to win the team’s third championship title. In this series, Jaylen “Ambi” Turk also tied the all-time record for kills on an online best-of-3 match.
Coming out of Soniqs’ championship weekend, the organization now has 12 total championships. The organization will have opportunities to add to the trophy case later this year as the PUBG team travels to Malaysia to compete in PGS 5&6. Soniqs’ Rainbow Six Siege program will also travel to Montreal to compete in the Montreal Major and have an opportunity to qualify for the Six Invitational early next year.
